I've fallen off the wagon a bit with regard to this blog, so when the lovely Tara (a.k.a. onepinktee) tagged me for this photo meme, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to start up again.

Not one of my better photos, I admit. This was taken from the street on 17 August, 2005, just as the BoDeans took to the rooftop of the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee to play a free concert to promote their new live concert CD, Homebrewed. I say rooftop because that's how the concert was billed, but that's not completely accurate - they were actually on a second-floor balcony that juts out over the sidewalk on the north side of Wells St.
I recall that up until the day of the concert, it was uncertain whether or not they'd be allowed to play on that balcony. The alderman of that district refused to grant a variance to the noise ordinance because of complaints he'd received about a previous outdoor concert. In the end, he relented, Wells St. was shut down, beer carts were brought in (serving Pabst, of course!), people crammed in, and we had a great time seeing the BoDeans perform. Seeing this photo again reminds me of how much I love my hometown, and how much the summer here revolves around music and fun.
